SOLES4SOULS

SOLES4SOULS INFORMATION GATHERING

at Messiah Lutheran Church, South Williamsport

Saturday, April 13 (8:30-11:30 a.m.)

Do your children have shoes they have outgrown? Do you have shoes that are outmoded but still useful? If so, SOLES4SOULS is in need of them. What is “SOLES4SOULS”?? Messiah’s Women of the ELCA invite interested persons to an ‘Information Gathering” at Messiah Lutheran Church, 324 S. Howard Street, South Williamsport, to hear Abby Yorks of Middleburg explain the goals and scope of this non-profit organization that was established in 2006 to create sustainable jobs and provide relief through the distribution of shoes and clothing around the world. To date the organization has given 94 million pairs of shoes and pieces of clothing to people in 138 countries and all 50 US States. A Continental Breakfast will be served from 8:30 to 9:00, followed by two hour-long presentations with Abby giving an overview of SOLES4SOULS, explaining her involvement as the Pennsylvania representative for the non-profit and how S4S is working to eradicate poverty here and around the world. Please register your church group or as an individual by April 1st by calling Brenda Cromley (570-506-4698). There is no registration fee, but we do ask that you give a free-will offering for SOLES4SOULS during the Closing Devotions and also, if possible, bring donations of shoes (for children and adults).

DONATIONS – All styles, sizes, genders (in wearable condition) are acceptable, but NOT loose shoes laces, shoe stretchers/trees, ice/roller skates, socks, shoe boxes, insoles or shin guards.

The Joys of Giving

“The Joys Of Giving During The Advent Season”
This year at St. John Neumann, the students decided to help those in need by organizing an Advent Food Drive.  They had a different designated food item every day to bring in for a week.
The Twelve Days of Service food items included canned fruit, boxes of cereal, ketchup and mustard, peanut butter, canned cranberry sauce, boxed dessert mixes, boxed crackers, boxed pancake mix, spaghetti sauce, boxed pasta, canned soup, and canned veggies.
The students ended up bringing in a lot of donations and volunteers from different grades of the school unloaded the donations at the United Churches of Lycoming County’s Food Pantry.  In addition to unloading the food at the Pantry, the volunteers cleaned and stocked the shelves.
Neumann’s Director of Religious Formation, Andrew McCarroll, organized the drive.  When asked what inspired the Food Drive, McCarroll said, “For Advent, we prepare for Christmas and gifts.  What better way to give back to our community than by giving them the joy of Christmas as well?”
The Food Drive was a success, and it was truly an experience to be able to give back to the community and help those in need.

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday to Us!

United Churches of Lycoming County celebrates their 78th Birthday this month (January)!  Celebrate with us by donating a “Celebration Bag” to our Food Pantry.  For many families a cake mix and frosting are not considered essential food items.  For many families living on a tight food budget, even just a couple extra dollars on an item that is for “fun” is too much.  Imagine, as a mom, not able to bake cupcakes for your child to share with their friends.

Our “Celebration Bag” includes a disposable cake pan, a box of cake mix, a can of frosting, a package of candles, and some goodies (a few balloons and noise makers, a birthday card, etc.), all packaged inside a gift bag. Our dedicated Food Pantry volunteers will distribute the bags to families with an upcoming birthday to celebrate.  Please celebrate with United Churches of Lycoming County by making someone’s day special!

Volunteers Needed!

United Churches of Lycoming County is in need of volunteers for our Food Pantry!  We have opportunities on Monday and Tuesday mornings to pick up food, on Monday mornings to stock shelves, and on Thursdays to serve our neighbors.  Please contact Tammey at 570-322-1110, or email at [email protected], if you are interested!
