Resources for those in need

POVERTY: A FAITH-BASED RESPONSE

“She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn” (Luke 2:7). Homelessness has many causes. The situation can be short or long term. Let us reflect on those experiencing homelessness in this season where we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Then let us do something in charity and justice to support those in need.

The Eviction Lab at Princeton University – creates data, interactive tools, and research to help neighbors and policymakers understand the eviction crisis. In a typical year, landlords file 3.6 million eviction cases. For more information visit: evictionlab.org

Who is Evicted in America – Through a groundbreaking collaboration with the U.S. Census Bureau, the Princeton University Eviction Lab is able to demonstrate, for the first time, the sheer number of people facing the threat of eviction, the scale of racial/ethnic disparities in eviction risk, and the heavy burden of eviction faced by children.

  • Eviction filings in 2018 (most recent data available):
  • State of Pennsylvania: 329 filings per day
  • Lycoming County: 2.3 filings per day

Proceeds from the sale of the books go towards clothing men, women, children and infants who are homeless and thus in need.
