Book Discussion: Toxic Charity
February 25 @ 7:30 am - 8:30 am
A Book Discussion is starting soon: “Giving to those in need what they could be gaining from their own initiative may well be the kindest way to destroy people.” writes Robert Lupton in his book Toxic Charity.
Sometimes charity has unintended consequences that can be toxic to the individuals we seek to serve. Want to learn more? The Covation Center (217 W. 4th St) is hosting a 4 session discussion group starting on Tuesday, Feb. 25th and running every other week from 7:30-8:30 AM, to discuss this and other challenging topics from the book. To sign up, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 570-435-1993.
The Covation Center was founded in 2016 as a nonprofit seeking to empower entrepreneurs and small business owners through providing educational opportunities and one on one consultation. Funded by several grants to provide business outreach, they work to connect business owners with resources to help them succeed. They operate Williamsport’s first co-working space too. Their passion is to serve the socially and economically disadvantaged population of Williamsport by providing access to business resources, in order for these individuals to create income generating small businesses.
